For our 2001 format, we have expanded the format used in the 1999 broadcast.

In 1999, we reproduced the sound of August 1970, for the duration of our 28 day broadcast. By the end of the RSL, despite a new chart, new hitbounds etc each week, the sound had become a little bit repetitive and quite a few of the songs that were used throughout the broadcast had basically begun to become candidates for a collection housed in a Mr Davy Jones' locker. For myself, I'd have no problem if I never hear 'All Right Now' by Free ever again. I know Tony Currie feels the same way about Donovan's 'Riki Tiki Tavi'.

This time, we are visiting one 'window of time' or year reach week. For our initial week, we will attempt to reproduce the sound of RNI in June 1971. Week 2, will see us move to 1972, week 3 to 1973 and week 4 to 1974.

For each week, there will be a new chart, new hitbounds, a new album chart and new DJ hitpicks. Mix in a generous helping of rebound sounds (50s, 60s & 70s) so the music should not go stale this time around!

For our singles charts, we are using the genuine Radio Northsea International Super Top 50 for the appropriate week, although we will not be playing many (if any) of the Dutch or German language songs. Thanks go to Liz Poole & Ben Meijering for all their assistance in supplying the charts. I will broadcast the new chart (along with new smash play, hitbounds, Top 30 Album Chart, DJ Hitpicks etc) each Sunday between noon & 1500 and the chart show will be the trigger for us to move from one year to the next.

I will publish the charts and DJ Hitpicks on this website, every Sunday, after I have broadcast them.

The album charts are more-or-less the UK National top 30 charts of the day.

All the hitbound sounds are genuine vinyl 45s that failed to make the charts or would chart anytime up to 6 weeks after the appropriate week that we are covering.

Similarly, the DJs Hitpicks are based on new releases that failed to make the charts or records that would hit the charts anything up to 6 weeks after the appropriate week that we are covering.

Regular features that we will be including:

'Battle of the Bands' - Every evening 2000-2100 (except Sundays) - A musical battle. The DJs on board at the time or members of the RNI Fan Club will select the two 'combatants'. I just felt 'Beatles v Stones' feature which we had used in the two previous RSLs had become a little stale, although of course, if the DJ who is broadcasting wants to do a '4 x 5 battle' he can.

Northsea by Night - Monday-Friday. Some real gems in the early morning with Dave Kent & Dave Hunter.

In Concert - Saturday evenings 1800-1900

Tribute to Don Allen's Country Jambouree - Saturday evenings 1900-2000

The Rebound Show - Sunday evening: 1800-2100 - Music from the 1950s & 60s with Graham Vine

RNI Remembered - Sunday evenings 2100-2200 - One hour of taped extracts from RNI in the 70s

The Rock'n'Roll Show - Sundays 2200-2400 - Classic sounds with Pete Salberg & myself

Details of who is on the air, programme times etc, will again be published on this website.

If you have any questions, I'll do my best to answer them. My address: colin@quizquest.fsnet.co.uk

I'm pretty excited about the format. Elvira seems quite pleased. Xena's thinking it over, but Lois Lane (Terri Hatcher) isn't excited enough to throw her arms up in the air (shame!)
