BILL CHRISP & BRIAN CULLEN

Brian, from BBC Radio Merseyside, was also a contact of Don Allen.

Both were due to join RNI in November 1972, & both had gone out to Scheveningen to join the ship. However, this was the time of the famous storm & both waited for the weather to calm in order that a tender could take them out. After a few days of waiting though, both gave up on the idea of joining RNI.

Bill returned to Manx Radio were he continued to work until the 1980's and still lives on the island. I was delighted to subsequently receive an email from Bill, who corrected/updated me, as follows: I was only 35 when I left the station in 1978 after eight years service. I had been doing DJ work for the Palace group since 1970 and they wanted someone to take over running their cinema division. So that's what I did and still am doing albeit we have just one two screen cinema left now, but that keeps me busy and out of mischief. My wife and I run it between us.

Brian's radio career continued later with Marcher Gold in Wales, Radio Maldwyn & KCR on Merseyside.
