ROGER KIRK

Roger Kirk was born in East London and brought up and educated in Norfolk. After a brief training in engineering at Kings Lynn Technical College, he embarked on a course at Broadcasting House as a technical operator. He worked on a number of Radio One programmes as an engineer and even had the opportunity to present a Radio One Pop Workshop. In 1971, he had a very short lived career with offshore station, Radio Northsea. In fact he lasted 36 hours, presented one show (on April 29th) and was very very seasick. So it was back to land and mobile discos and engineering work at a recording studios.

Undeterred though, he subsequently opted to give offshore radio another try in the summer of 1973 and applied to join Radio Caroline International, the short lived 389 service. However, on being told that he wouldn't be paid, he thought the better of it!

Roger then went after an on-air job at Capital Radio, but was unsuccessful. However, he became a sound engineer with the station and stayed until August 1975, when he joined Pennine Radio in Bradford.

On April 2, 2001, it was reported on the internet that Roger had passed away.
