TREVOR CAMPBELL

Trevor Campbell (subsequently known as Trevor "The Big T" Campbell) was born in Ulster in 1946.

After a formal education he joined the Civil Service. In 1969 Trevor started working in discos on a semi-professional basis. In 1970, he met and became friendly with Don Allen and in 1972 Don invited Trevor onto his country music show. In November that year Trevor was offered a job on Radio North Sea International, where Don was now Programme Controller. He gave up his job as a Civil Servant and wetfooted it to Holland and went out to RNI in a force 9 gale.

With both the sea and his stomach heaving Trevor's dream was to be short lived, though he did venture back in calmer waters in 1973, as an early 1970s magazine recalled: On April 15, 1973, we were treated to a programme from a guest DJ during the "Skyline" show from 05.00-07.00 CET. This was Trevor Campbell, who was visiting the Mebo II with Dave Johns from Long Wittenham. Dave was on board to interview the announcers for the magazine "Dee Jay and Radio Monthly".

He subsequently returned to Ulster to become a favourite Club DJ. In March 1976 he joined Downtown radio the New ILR service in Belfast in 1975 and remains there to this day.

My thanks to Monitor Magazine who kindly provided information on Trevor and the picture.
